The book industry is one that is continually evolving, with the rise of the digital era and constant market changes. Whilst huge corporations such as Amazon are growing bigger and more powerful, indie publishers are increasingly becoming embedded in the communities of towns and cities. Certainly in Edinburgh, there’s a real sense of locals supporting their indie bookshops, which have some of the most passionate booksellers, and well-stocked and beautifully curated shelves.
Since moving to Edinburgh I really try to support indie shops wherever I can. I particularly like and try to support indie bookshops – there are some real gems scattered around Edinburgh that make for excellent browsing, especially on rainy days.

I think there is something lovely about supporting a family-run or indie company, who possibly need your custom the most. You don’t have to look far in Edinburgh to find independent shops, markets, boutiques and cafes- and often you can feel real gems that you simple can’t get in huge corporate companies.
