    It’s hard to believe that I started Edits Of Jo five whole years ago, albeit under a different name (let’s not go there!) and an entirely different theme. Where has that time gone, eh? Over the last few years, my style has changed dramatically – from the content I write, my style of writing and how frequently I post.

    Booking your first, solo trip away is such an exciting prospect, whether that’s a backpacking adventure, a gap year or just a well-deserved break. It can also be a tad scary however, navigating your way around an unknown place, finding your feet in a different culture and being away from the comfort of your home. For me, staying safe was also something that heavily played on my mind the first time I traveled solo.

    It’s not difficult to see why the Lake District is such a popular destination for keen hikers and walkers. Even in the frosty last days of December and early January, the Lake District was a hive of activity, with people running with their dogs, walking off that Christmas pudding and enjoying the stunning scenery that this area is renown for.

    At the end of last year, I started a new series on Edits Of Jo called A Local’s Guide to which features wonderfully talented voices from the travel community and their experiences of their hometown/city. Although I love nothing more than getting stuck into a good ol’ travel book (ideally with a pull-out map at the back), I also search the internet for posts that show a locals perspective to a particular area I’m planning a trip to.
