There are so many places I would love to travel to, many of which are on the other side of the world (Australia, New Zealand and Fiji I’m looking at you) but there are actually some really lovely get-aways right on the doorstep. Last year, I visited the Lake District for the first time and was completely blown away by the views, walks and places to explore.
Since moving to Edinburgh just over six months ago, I’ve discovered a number of lovely brunch spots- some through recommendations and some by simply walking through the city and spotting places as I go. Finding a good brunch place in Edinburgh is by no means a struggle- there is so much choice and variation no matter what your dietary requirements may be.
Alnwick is one of those places that is a home away from home. Admittedly, it is partly the people that make this place so special for me, but I do think it is a lovely place to escape to, whether you have an emotional connection to this area or not. There are so many things to do and see here, from fantastic beach walks, to tasty brunches (have a read of my food-y picks here) to bookshop browsing- there is something for everyone.
Just south of the Scottish border is the very beautiful county of Northumberland. It is the northernmost part of England and is home to the quaint town of Alnwick. For a fairly small town there are so many lovely things to do and see here, especially in the summer months.
One of the best things about London is that it’s so well connected. From Edinburgh you can catch a fast train that gets you to London in just four and a half hours, which does work out slightly quicker than flying and is the perfect opportunity to get stuck into a good old book and catch up on the odd email or two.
It is honestly astounding where the last three months have gone. It feels like just a couple of weeks ago since I was packing away the Christmas decorations and now the Easter holidays have been and gone too. As we are a third of the way through the year, I thought it would be a good to document some of my top art-related picks of 2018 so far!
